Conway tailback Seth Moreland ran behind Tim Fowler on many of his carries in 2008. Now he's planning to do it for four more years.
Moreland committed this weekend to Presbyterian College, an FCS member of the Big South Conference, during an official visit to the school, Conway coach Chuck Jordan said. Fowler, an offensive lineman, chose the Blue Hose over several other schools in December.
Moreland, a 5-foot-9, 175 pounder, was one of the area's biggest surprises last season, leading Horry County in rushing with 1,376 yards (5.4 per carry) and 11 touchdowns. He emerged as a hard-hitting safety and part-time tailback in 2007, but didn't become the centerpiece of Conway's offense until his senior year.
Still, his breakout season didn't attract many offers. He chose Presbyterian over Division II Lenoir-Rhyne. Presbyterian recruited Moreland as an athlete with the understanding that he can play in the backfield or the secondary.
Moreland has 4.5 speed, but his hard-hitting mentality played a bigger role in his and the team's success last fall. On more than one occasion his big hits -- even from the tailback position -- provided an emotional spark that the Tigers road to the Region VI-AAAA championship.
The Tigers will have five players participate in National Signing Day festivities on Wednesday: Moreland, Fowler, Michael Frazier (Appalachian State), Jason Livingston (Newberry) and Erskine Johnson (S.C. State).
