Andrews close to finding new football coach

The Andrews Yellow Jackets may soon have a new head football coach.

Andrews Athletic Director Adrian Smith said Tuesday that the school has targeted its choice to replace Steve Hart, but the school has not made a formal offer to anyone.

``There is a tentative decision,'' Smith said. ``Hopefully we will have something to announce at the end of the week.''

The Georgetown Times reported late last week that the school had narrowed its list of candidates to three _Timberland assistant coach Steve Blanchard, Newberry College assistant coach Bradley Adams and Chad Smith, a former head coach at Northern Nash High in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Adrian Smith said Tuesday that the Times' report was accurate and the targeted candidate is one of the three finalists.

``We met with them last Friday, and we have had some discussions,'' Smith said. ``There is a No. 1 candidate, but no formal offer has been made.''

Hart resigned with a 15-28 record in four seasons as the team's head coach. The Yellow Jackets made the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, but the Yellow Jackets were 1-9 last season and missed the postseason for the first time since 2001.
