Andrews waiting to name football coach

The Andrews head football coaching position will be open a little while longer.

Andrews Athletic Director Adrian Smith said Friday the school is not ready to name a new football coach at this time. Smith said the school had to wait until the next school board meeting sometime in early April before any announcement would be made.

``I can't make any announcements or anything else,'' Smith said. ``There have been developments, but there is nothing I can say or do about it. Until [the school board meets], it is just status quo.''

Smith said last week that the school had made an offer to one of its three finalists and hoped to have an announcement soon.

On Monday, Smith said there was still one last step the candidate had to go through with the district office and as soon as that process was completed the school would have an announcement. That was expected to happen sometime in the middle of this week, but no announcement was made.
