Myrtle Beach boys basketball coach resigns

Myrtle Beach High School has lost another prominent coach.

DeAndre Scott resigned as the boys basketball coach on Thursday, Myrtle Beach athletic director Doug Terry said.

First-round S.C. baseball/softball playoff matchups

Below are first-round baseball and softball district playoff matchups for districts involving local teams with seed in parentheses (times provided for local teams' games only). First-round winners and losers play each other Saturday with an elimination round on Monday and the district finals Wednesday. You can find complete brackets at www.schsl.org.

Myrtle Beach gets some national exposure

Six Myrtle Beach football players participated in high school football combines last weekend. Most notably, quarterback Everett Golson threw in a regional Elite 11 quarterback camp on Friday. The camp was for quarterabacks, but Seahawks receivers Alex Holloman and Donte Sumpter, both rising juniors, and Tramond Wilson, a rising sophomore, served as part of the receiving corps for the top-rated quarterbacks and apparently didn't do too bad themselves

Tentative playoff baseball pairings

For those not wanting to wait, below are links to projected district pairings for the S.C. high school baseball playoffs on scvarsity.com. Just remember, these are not official so don't etch anything in stone. Schools in Class AAAA, Class AA, and Class A for both baseball and softball are to turn in their final region standings to the SCHSL by Tuesday and Class AAA schools are to turn in their final region standings by Wednesday, according to the SCHSL's Web stie.

Region VI-AAAA track anyone?

For anyone interestd, the Region VI-AAAA track meet will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach. The region is comprised of Carolina Forest, Conway, Hartsville, South Florence, Sumter and West Florence. The order of events for Wednesday's meet are here: Region VI-AAAA

Carolina Forest athletic director Bubba Lewis said all of the Panthers' sporting activities planned for Friday and Saturday will take place as scheduled.

I know some will notice and I apologize for the misprint, but the Myrtle Beach football schedule that ran in Friday's paper had some incomplete information.

Earley resigns as Myrtle Beach football coach

Scott Earley, who guided the Myrtle Beach Seahawks football team to the 2008 Class AAA state championship, resigned as the school's football coach on Thursday and the school has already named his replacement.
