A closer look: Georgetown Bulldogs football

Head coach: Tyronne Davis, Georgetown

On the Bulldogs' offensive strengths:
>>``We are going to be more of an I backfield this year with Devante Geathers (a 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore), Tevin Johnson (sophomore) and Marcus Archie (senior) battling for the starting tailback spot.''

>>``Patrick Ward (a junior) has solidified the starting quarterback position. Patrick won the starting job for the last four games last year.''

On the Bulldogs' offensive weaknesses:
>>``We have a young offensive line. We graduated three offensive line starters from last year, but our young guys are looking pretty good.''

On the Bulldogs' defense:

>>``Defense is probably where we are going to be the most experienced. We return three starters in our secondary. Justin Acklin is our senior captain at free safety. He is one of the top defensive backs in the state. Last year, he led the team in interceptions and was fourth in tackles.
``We also return senior Daunte Gardner and junior JasMar Hayward in the secondary.''

>>``Up front defensively, we have two returning down linemen in junior Darius Brown and senior T.J. Drayton. And Archie is back as a linebacker.''

A LITTLE EXTRA:

>>Davis said the Bulldogs return six starters on offense and six on defense from last season.

RECRUITING NEWS:
>>Davis said Acklin and Archie are getting looks from schools such as South Carolina State, Newberry and Benedict.
Archie tore his ACL against Myrtle Beach last year, but should be healthy this season.
``Neither have received offers,'' Davis said, ``but they definitely are receiving looks.''
