There are a couple of intriguing games on the schedule this week. The Waccamaw at Manning game should be a good one. Manning is very talented and Waccamaw may be catching them at exactly the wrong time, but the Warriors should put up some points in that one. It would be huge for Waccamaw to win that game and get a home playoff game. Carolina Forest plays a winless West Florence team but the Panthers aren't far enough along that they can look past anyone. West Florence played both Wilson and Camden relatively close and they could definitely knock off the Panthers. And despite a poor record, Andrews could be an upset away from a playoff berth. The 28-6 loss to Manning is another better-than-expected loss from what I see, so who knows, maybe the Yellow Jackets can knock off the Hawks and everything else breaks their way for a playoff berth in Steve Blanchard's first season. Of course that probably means a trip to Dillon.

Here is the weekly prep writers poll. Myrtle Beach and Carvers Bay are still the lone ranked teams from the area. The poll is missing records, point total and also receiving votes this week because the person that regularly compiles the poll had to be off.

Well, I have to take my furlough week beginning Monday so I am going ahead and posting my picks for this week. I hate to say it, but I see a lot of blowouts this week. The one exception is South Florence at Conway, which has major playoff implications. The winner is in good shape for the region's third seed while the loser will have to sweat out a possible at-large bid that may not come. I think Kingstree may be able to put a scare into Waccamaw if the Warriors aren't paying attention and Socastee has been playing a lot better, so it will be interesting to see how the Braves stack up against Lake City.

A couple of teams are playing for their postseason lives tonight. Georgetown and Loris will not make the playoffs if they lose Friday night. The losses don't automatically eliminate them, but their postseason fate would require some hard to believe scenarios. Loris is basically in a win and your in or a lose and your out situation. Georgetown could win and it still could miss the playoffs. I think the tiebreaker would be defensive points allowed against the two teams you are tied with, which would be Socastee and North Myrtle Beach. With only Friday's game between Georgetown and Socastee left in that scenario the points allowed stand at Socastee 10, Georgetown 28 and North Myrtle Beach 38. Remember in these scenarios that once the three-way tie is broken, the tibereaker between the two teams left reverts to head-to-head.
