Participants for the 2010 North/South All Star Wrestling Classic scheduled for March 4-6 at North Myrtle Beach have been released. The event is for the top senior wrestlers in South Carolina and also includes a matchup with an all-star team from Georgia.
The North vs. South dual match will take place at 6 p.m. Friday and will be followed by Team South Carolina taking on Team Georgia at 7:45 p.m. On Saturday, the North-South feature matchups will be held beginning at noon.

The rosters for the 13th annual Carolinas All-Star Basketball Classic have been announced.
The game features 40 of the top high school boys and girls senior basketball players from North Carolina and South Carolina. Although, the rosters sent out seem a little light. The North Carolina boys squad has just eight players listed while two of the other three teams only have nine. So I am sure the rosters will be adjusted some before the game gets here. There are no local players on any of the teams this year. Last year, Lakeitha Alston and Danielle Hennessey from Carolina Forest were on the S.C. girls team while Kindard Gadsden-Gilliard of Georgetown was on the S.C. boys team.

The 2010 S.C. Softball Coaches Preseason poll was released Monday.
Two area teams were represented with St. James ranked seventh in Class AAA and Waccamaw ranked second in Class AA.
St. James has a new coach this season in Adam Jones, who has been an assistant baseball coach and social studies teacher at the school for four years. He replaces McEwen Dannelly, who left the position before coaching a game at St. James to become head coach at LSU-Alexandria. Dannelly had been hired to replace Denise White, who resigned in July to take the same position at Christ Church in Greenville. St. James finished last season 25-7, losing in the Class AAA Lower State bracket.

Only one high school basketball matchup on the local schedule for tonight will go on as scheduled. The winter storm that is moving into the area has forced the remaining schools to either postpone or cancel their contests.
