The Loris wrestling squad’s berth in the Class AA duals state championship is once again up in the air.
According to a posting on scmat.com, "an injunction has been filed to appeal the ruling by the SCHSL regarding the 2A Lower State championship. The court hearing is Thursday. The 2A state finals will not be scheduled until the appeal process is completed.’’
Loris dropped the Lower State final to Hanahan on Wednesday, but Thursday the S.C. High School League ruled that the Hawks used an ineligible wrestler. Hanahan had to forfeit the win from the ineligible wrestler and the swing in points gave Loris the Lower State title.
Hanahan school officials said they planned to appeal the SCHSL’s ruling Friday.
"I am kind of shocked. I don’t know how they are going to debate it," Loris coach Thomas Britt said Friday night. "I had no idea it would go like this. I thought it was a done issue, but apparently it is not."
Britt said he learned of the injunction when someone called him after stumbling across the post on scmat.com.
"I would have figured someone would have let me know, whether from the high school or someone," Britt said. "Someone happen to call and tell me they saw it on scmat.’’
Saturday’s Class AA state title match against Woodruff had been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Ridge View High School in Columbia. But the SCHSL notified Britt earlier in the day that due to the winter storm hitting the Carolinas, the state championship matches scheduled for Saturday would be postponed. Britt was just waiting to find out when and where his team would take on Woodruff when he learned of the injunction.
That left the coach wondering what to do.
"I don’t have a clue. Right now I am just clueless," Britt said. "I don’t think I will get any answers until next week.
"I have never heard of anything like this before."
