Eight area softball players have earned South Carolina all-state honors including Region VII-AAA Player of the Year Sarah Johnson of North Myrtle Beach and Waccamaw pitcher and Maryland signee Ashley Czechner.
The other area players honored were Carvers Bay senior Whitney Baxley, Loris freshman Taylor Prince, Waccamaw senior Ashley Brown, North Myrtle Beach sophomore Carly Hansis, Georgetown junior Logan Cox and St. James sophomore Erin Brown.
Johnson, a third baseman, batted.439 with a home run, 11 doubles and 24 RBIs for the Chiefs while teammate Hansis, a catcher, had a .403 average with eight home runs and 20 RBIs.
Entering Friday’s Lower State championship game, Czechner was 24-0 with a 0.15 ERA and had given up four runs with 372 strikeouts in 143 innings pitched. She also held a .373 batting average with six home runs and 37 RBIs. This is her third all-state selection and she was the Class AA Player of the Year last season. Brown, a first baseman and pitcher for the Warriors, entered Friday with a 7-0 record and 0.19 ERA on the mound and had a .411 batting average with 48 RBIs at the plate.
Prince, who played third base and caught, had a .551 batting average with three home runs, 23 RBIs and 17 stolen bases for the Lions.
Brown, the Sharks' catcher, had a .522 average with three home runs and 31 RBIs.
Statistics for Baxley and Cox were not immediately available.
