Loris defensive end Grove signs with Coffeyville

Loris senior defensive lineman Tyrone Grove signed a college scholarship to play at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas earlier this week.

Grove said he failed to qualify academically at a four-year institution and is heading to Coffeyville hoping to improve his academic standing as well as draw attention from college coaches.

Spring games litter local football scene this week

We had a story in Sunday's paper about spring football practice and we also had a list of the area's spring games. Not every school will hold a true spring game and some have already had theirs, but here is the list for those interested. Schools aren't allowed to charge admission to the game.

The season's final S.C. Softball Coaches Poll was released Monday. Three area teams ended the season ranked.

Myrtle Beach's Sumpter headed to East Carolina to play football

Myrtle Beach junior wide receiver Donte Sumpter committed Tuesday to play college football at East Carolina.

While East Carolina is the only scholarship offer Sumpter has received to this point, Myrtle Beach coach Mickey Wilson thinks it is a perfect fit for his leading receiver.

Eight area soccer players have been named to the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association's All-State team.

Eight area softball players have earned South Carolina all-state honors including Region VII-AAA Player of the Year Sarah Johnson of North Myrtle Beach and Waccamaw pitcher and Maryland signee Ashley Czechner.

Georgetown baseball player signs with college

Georgetown senior Seth Johnson signed to play college baseball at USC-Lancaster last week.
