Andrew Power, former Seahawks football player, commits to Tennessee

Andrew Power, who played high school football at Myrtle Beach High School, committed to play at the University of Tennessee as part of the Volunteers’ 2011 recruiting class, his father Chuck Power said in a text message to The Sun News. The news was also confirmed by InsideTennessee.com.

Power was a walk-on at South Carolina in the fall of 2008, his freshman season, but left the program the following spring. He spent last fall at Georgia Southern and is now attending Arizona Western Junior College, where he will play this fall before enrolling at Tennessee in January. He is expected to play tight end for the Vols.

According to InsideTennessee.com, Andrew Power took an unofficial visit to Tennessee on Thursday and committed to the Vols the next day.

"The main thing that stood out about Tennessee was the coaching staff," Power told InsideTennessee.com. "You can tell that they are high quality people, great guys, easy to talk to. I
like what Coach [Derek] Dooley stands for, I love his plans to turn the program around."

Power is listed at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds with a 40-yard dash time of 4.65 seconds.

"I think it is a great opportunity [for him], but he hasn’t played a lot of college ball yet," Myrtle Beach offensive coordinator Wes Streeter said. "But I think he will do pretty well there, with what they are going to try to do on offense schematically. I think he will fit pretty well into their system and have an opportunity.to play."

In other Myrtle Beach football news, quarterback Everett Golson and lineman Jason Rexroad are among 400 finalists for the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl to be played at 1 p.m. January 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. According to usarmyallamericanbowl.com, players are selected and invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl throughout the spring and summer and the final rosters will be announced in late fall. Ninety players will be selected to the game with rosters divided into East and West teams.

Golson was recently named the quarterback MVP at a Nike combine in Alabama.
