Area grabs multiple spots on all-star baseball squads

The South Carolina Select baseball team and the North-South All-Star baseball teams have been announced.

The North-South event features four teams: AAAA/A and AAA/AA teams for both the North and South. The South Carolina Select team will play a North Carolina Select squad, whose roster has not been made available.

The Select and North-South games are part of a three-day event for the top senior baseball players in the state. The games are scheduled for June 17-19 at Coastal Carolina's Watson Stadium. A full schedule with game times has not been released.

Myrtle Beach infielder Jared Huffman was the lone area representative on the S.C. Select team. Huffman was a Class AAA All-State and All-Region VII-AAA selection. He batted .442 with 9 home runs, 29 RBIs and 28 runs scored for the Seahawks.

The area had seven players earn North-South honors:

>>Tim Starkey, Socastee
: Catcher batted .287 with a home run, 18 RBIs and 15 runs scored for the Braves
>>Colby Crooks, St. James: Third baseman and pitcher was an All-Region VII-AAA selection who batted .364 with 19 RBIs and 11 runs scored, also went 7-1 with a 1.58 ERA on the mound with a shutout
>>Aaron Bishop, Waccamaw: Class AA All-State and All-Region VII-AA selection who will play at The Citadel next season; Second baseman and pitcher Was 2010 Mingo Bay MVP and batted .519 with 7 home runs, 30 RBIs and 32 runs scored for the Warriors; Also went 6-3 on the mound with 75 strikeouts and a 3.19 ERA in 41.2 innings pitched
>>Zach Hagaman, Waccamaw: Class AA All-State and All-Region VII-AA selection will play next season at Charleston Southern; Outfielder and pitcher batted .402 with 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and 31 runs scored for the Warriors; Threw two no-hitters and was 5-1 with a 2.89 ERA on the mound

: Outfielder batted .424 with 4 home runs, 26 RBIs and 16 runs for the Panthers.
>>Matthew Jolly, Carolina Forest: Outfielder and pitcher batted .394 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs, 24 runs scored and 11 stolen bases for the Panthers; went 4-4 with a 2.75 ERA on the mound
>>Cannon Jordan, Conway: Third baseman batted .363 with 9 RBIs, 17 runs scored and 10 stolen bases for the Tigers.
