This week's top performers:

Conway quarterback Robert Nelson: The junior was 9-for-16 passing for 168 yards and two touchdown passes (26 and 31 yards).

Carolina Forest running back Mark Timmons: The senior carried 29 times for 193 yards including touchdown runs of 22, 49 and 31 yards. He also caught one pass for seven yards.

St. James quarterback Chase Smith: The senior was 12-for-16 passing for 151 yards and touchdown passes of 1, 12 and 9 yards in his first start under center this season.

Green Sea Floyds running back Lassan Reaves: The senior rushed for 161 yards including touchdown runs of 7 and 22 yards.

Loris running back Fred Bryant: The junior carried 13 times for 101 yards including a 6-yard touchdown run.

Loris running back Markeise Jackson: The junior rushed just five times for 230 yards including touchdown runs of 60, 53 and 80 yards. Entering the game, Jackson had carried three times for 17 yards on the season.

Random thoughts from Friday night:

Not so fast my friend: Apparently all the talk about the possible return of Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson was just that -- all talk. While Seahawks coach Mickey Wilson was spinning it as Golson was a game-time decision, a guy in a walking cast and a hard cast on his hand doesn't sound like someone ready to play. So when will Golson return? Who knows, but it'll be hard to believe it until you see it.

Victory Bell tolls: So Myrtle Beach now has four straight wins in the big local rivalry with Conway. With the departure of several Seahawks stars after this season and a hopefully healthy Mykal Moody the next two years, the Tigers should be in position to take the Bell back next year. I know it's a little early to start talking up next year's game, but why not. That's what makes these things fun.

Hard knocks: Once again the Carvers Bay-Hemingway tilt was a defensive showcase. The Bears had a few opportunities but never could cash in, and against Hemingway you better make the most of your opportunities. The games are pretty to watch, but they are as physcial as you see at that level. It wouldn't be a surprise if the two meet again in the postseason, and the Bears would love to end the Tigers' season at their place just like Hemingway did to the Bears last season.

How deep are the Lions?: Loris junior Markeise Jackson's 230 rushing yards may not have been a school record but his 46-yards-per-carry average have to be -- heck, it may hit the national record books for a minimum of five carries in a game. Jackson is supposed to be the Lions' fourth back if there is a pecking order. Not bad for Option D.
