This week's top performers:
Carvers Bay running back Quae'Shawn Brockington: The running back had touchdown runs of 9, 99, 5 and 7 yards as he rushed for 206 yards on 17 carries.

St. James wide receiver Caleb Duggan: The sophomore caught seven passes for 112 yards including touchdown catches of 22 and 34 yards.

Myrtle Beach running back Daiquone Ford: The senior carried the ball just four times for 64 yards including a 14-yard scoring run, but he also had two receptions for 31 yards and a 20-yard touchdown catch and returned a punt 52 yards for a score.

Myrtle Beach wide receiver Donte Sumpter: The senior had eight catches for 104 yards with 11 and 13-yard touchdown receptions.

Myrtle Beach quarterback Mitch Campbell: The senior was 16-for-25 passing for 192 yards and four touchdowns (20, 11, 13 and 21 yards).

Socastee running back P.J. Brave: The senior rushed 24 times for 115 yards.

Carolina Forest wide receiver Jarvez Holmes: The junior had seven catches for 120 yards.

Random thoughts from Friday:

Playoffs taking shape: All four playoff teams are set in Region VIII-AAA. Myrtle Beach is the region's top seed with Wilson lockind down the second seed. Socastee and St. James are in and play in next week's regular-season finale to determine third and fourth place. Region V will match up with Region VIII in all of the first-round playoff matchups. Region V looks like a logjam at the top with the potential for AC Flora, Airport or Midland Valley to be one of the top two teams.

Too little, too late?: Carolina Forest got a good win by knocking off Sumter, especially battling back in the fourth quarter against the region's defending champs. But with Lugoff-Elgin's win over West Florence on Thursday combined with the Panthers' loss to Lugoff-Elgin, Carolina Forest needs some help. The eassiest route would be for Carolina Forest to win its final two and for Lugoff-Elgin to lose its final two. Other scenarios work too, but the bottom line is if Carolina Forest want in the playoffs, it almost certainly has to lock up one of the three automatic bids that go to the region's top three teams. An at-larghe bud based on points seems unlikely due to the Panthers' weak pre-region schedule.
