Baseball
Conway senior catcher/pitcher Clay Altman signed a National Letter of Intent to play college baseball at Winthrop on Nov. 11.
As a junior, Altman batted .351 with four home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored and also went 6-0 with a 3.02 ERA on mound.
>>Carolina Forest first baseman Jarrod Lee Rickman signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 15 to play college baseball at Furman.
>>Myrtle Beach pitcher/infielder Alex Roberts signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 14 to play college baseball at Newberry College. As a junior, Roberts hit .308 with nine home runs, 28 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
Softball
>>Georgetown second baseman/pitcher Logan Cox signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 12 to play college softball at Coker College. As a junior, Cox was a Class AAA All-State selection and First-team All-Region VII-AAA. On the mound, she pitched a six-inning perfect game in the playoffs and had an 18-8 record with 232 strikeouts in 176 innings with five shutouts. She also hit .461 with 31 RBIs, 17 stolen bases, 17 doubles and 15 triples.
>>St. James senior shortstop Cyra Cottrell signed a National Letter of Intent to play college softball at Elon University on Nov. 12. Cottrell is a three-time AAA All-State, All-Region and The Sun News Toast of the Coast selection. As a junior, Cottrell batted .506 with seven home runs, 31 RBIs and 23 runs scored. She is also a state finalist for the female Wendy’s Heisman Award. Cottrell was the St. James female winner and and Tanner English was the male school winner.
Golf
>>Georgetown senior Mallory Thompkins signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 12 to play college golf at Coker College. Thompkins has been a member of the Georgetown girls golf team since seventh grade. During her senior season, she had a 9-hole stroke average of 42.3 and qualified for the Class AAA girls state tournament where she finished 19th. She is a three-time All-Region selection and was a member of The Sun News Toast of the Coast Girls Golf team as a sophomore and junior (the 2010 team has not been announced).
