MB's Sessions throws recruiting curve ball, and Week 14 football pick

Khadijah Sessions wasn't going to be pressured into a decision, and now the Myrtle Beach junior point guard is going to take her time to choose which major college women's basketball team she'll be signing with next year.

Sessions, one of the top high school players in the state, originally said in May that she wanted to make an announcement before the start of this season. However, after a big-time AAU season with the South Carolina 76ers, her offers increased and gave her more to think about.

Now, she's going to take some extra time, and she said some time around the Beach Ball Classic in December, she'll announce a finalists list -- in her case, the top six schools.

"I want to make sure me, my mom and my dad are on the same page," she said Monday.

The 5-foot-7 player has offers from basically every ACC and SEC school, as well as others around the country.

Sessions and the rest of the Seahawks will kick off the 2010 season next week, the start of their defense of their Class AAA state title after finishing with a 29-1 record.

Most teams in the area will begin their high school basketball seasons next week. For a look at all 26 boys and girls teams in The Sun News' coverage area, check out Sunday's paper.

At most, there are two regular football games left for area teams this year, and that's only if Myrtle Beach is able to get by Bluffton on the road this week (more on the Seahawks having to travel for a playoff game in Friday's paper).

Again, I believe there's just too many weapons for Myrtle Beach this season. They've already beaten the other two teams (Cane Bay, Berkeley) who tied Bluffton for the Region VI-AAA title, and I have a hard time believing that another run first team is going to beat the Seahawks.

Simply, I don't believe chewing up clock is enough of a strategy for defeating Myrtle Beach. You need to force the Seahawks into turnovers, take advantage of their penalties and lock down all those receivers. Easier said than done.

That said, I don't know that this will be a blowout. Bluffton's offense is stronger than Berkeley's and Cane Bay's.

Myrtle Beach 45, Bluffton 35

Here was last week's pick, with actual score in parentheses; correct pick bold-faced:

Myrtle Beach 38, Berkeley 21 (Myrtle Beach 42, Berkeley 28)

WEEK 12: 1-1. OVERALL: 77-30
