An interesting list came out this afternoon.
Rivals.com has ranked the top five high school quarterbacks from around the nation in three different categories: Strongest Arm, Most Accurate and Best Scrambler. The list, so says the Web site, is an assemblage of video study, in-game analysis and opinions formed from offseason camps from last summer.
What's missing, for local football fans, is much mention of Everett Golson, the Myrtle Beach quarterback softly committed to North Carolina.
However, there are two wild cards in the mix for the quarterback:
First, coach Mickey Wilson and Golson said earlier this month that the QB will enroll early in college, getting in for the second semester of this year.
Second, Golson missed eight games due to his hand and foot injuries. That reduced the number of game films coaches and people like the Rivals reporters from having.
So while he may not end up on a lot of these end-of-the-season lists, don't discount Golson's influence on the market in the coming weeks. If Myrtle Beach makes a second state-championship run in three seasons, schools like Notre Dame, Tennessee, Clemson and UNC will have to fight a little harder to get him.

Also of note from that Rivals story is West Palm Beach (Fla.) quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder includes North Carolina on his list of schools (a list that also includes Florida State, LSU, South Florida, South Carolina and Wisconsin, by the way).
Watching the dominoes fall is one of the hardest parts of high school recruiting. Seldom do skill position players commit to a school where another top-flight player of the same position does the same.
So while a school like Notre Dame may hold the most flash of the four programs Golson put on his new short list, an increased competition for playing time could lead him somewhere else.
