Region VIII-AAA boys basketball awards handed out

The All-Region VIII-AAA boys basketball team voted on by region coaches was released Friday.

Wilson senior forward Justin Kelly was the region's player while St. James' Monty Carr was voted the coach of the year and North Myrtle Beach sophomore JaQuan Grissett was named newcomer of the year.

Wilson and North Myrtle Beach, the top two teams in the region, each placed two players on the first team.

Kelly, who averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game, was joined by teammate Brandon Jones, a junior forward. Junior guard Dylan Poston and senior forward Temarrick Hemingway were North Myrtle Beach's first-teamers with St. James senior guard Marshall McClary the other first-team selection.
