Jeff Mezzatesta’s “other” baby is about to kick into full gear.
Mezzatesta, the boys basketball coach and athletics director at Carvers Bay, is undergoing final preparations for next week’s start to the seventh annual Carvers Bay Boys Basketball Summer League. The four-day event starts with a two-day session June 13-14 before wrapping up June 27-28.
Games will be played at the high school and middle school, as well as at Pleasant Hill Elementary. Ten of the 13 area high schools will have at least one team – if not more – play in the league. Plenty of other schools from around the state that made playoff runs are also participating.
The event will have the feel of a mid-range, multi-day AAU tournament. Apparel companies Under Armour and Nike will be in attendance, as well as a number of college scouts mining for talent.
The format allows for each of the top-level teams to play as many as four games each day. The abbreviated games start at 8 a.m. each day and run through approximately 9:30 p.m.
