The South Carolina vs. North Carolina format of the Derrick Law Firm Carolinas Clash is set for 2013, and as expected, there has been some minor adjustments made to the schedule.
The Carolinas Clash, originally named the Surf and Turf Kickoff Classic prior to sponsorship and format-related name changes, will open with Myrtle Beach's game against Richmond County (N.C.) on Aug. 30. That game will be played at 7:30 p.m.
The following day, Wilmington Hoggard will play Irmo, Southeast Raleigh with take on Dutch Fork and Wilmington New Hanover will cap off the night against Conway. All four games will take place at Myrtle Beach's Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Missing from that list is Northwestern. The Trojans - who defeated Conway in the inaugural event in August - opted out of returning for a second year. The eventually Class AAAA, Division II runners up weren't replaced with any other school, though.
Dutch Fork, the South Carolina team taking Northwestern's place, was the runner up in the Class AAAA, Division I playoffs, where it lost to Gaffney in the state finals.
These games will serve as Week 1 of the South Carolina high school season, and it will serve as the season-opener for Myrtle Beach. The Seahawks will again use their bye week in Week 0.
