Updated hoops playoffs scenarios for area teams

Tuesday's high-school basketball games straightened out what had been a very confusing playoff picture for most of the area schools.

North Myrtle Beach's boys and girls teams clinched Region VII-AAA championships. The Myrtle Beach and Socastee girls locked in their postseason positioning; and Conway's boys team knows it will have a home game next week in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

More will be determined tonight, as the Class AA teams wrap up their regular-season. The rest will be determined on Thursday (Class AAA) and Friday (Class AAAA).

Below is the list of area regions and where local teams stand in the playoff hunt. (NOTE: Will update missing regions as available.)

Region VI-AAAA Boys

1. Sumter (7-1)

2. Conway (5-2)

3. West Florence (3-4)

4. South Florence (2-5)

5. Carolina Forest (1-6)

Conway –vs. Carolina Forest Friday – Will be No. 2 seed from region in Class AAAA playoffs (Wednesday home game)

Carolina Forest – at Conway Friday – Eliminated from playoff contention

Region VI-AAAA Girls

1. Sumter (7-1)

2. Conway (4-3)

3. Carolina Forest (3-4)                                 

4. West Florence (3-4)

5. South Florence (1-6)

Conway – at South Florence Tuesday, vs. Carolina Forest Friday – Will secure region’s No. 2 seed with win Friday (Tuesday home game)

Carolina Forest – at Conway Friday – Can secure playoff spot with win Friday or West Florence loss Friday (vs. South Florence)

Region VII-AAA Boys

1. North Myrtle Beach (7-2)

2. Myrtle Beach (5-4), Georgetown (5-4), Wilson (5-4)

5. St. James (4-5)

6. Socastee (1-8)

North Myrtle Beach – at Myrtle Beach Thursday – Won Region VII-AAA title; will have No. 1 seed for Class AAA playoffs. (Tuesday home game)

Myrtle Beach – vs. North Myrtle Beach Thursday – Can secure playoff spot with win Thursday or St. James loss.

Georgetown –at Wilson Thursday – Can secure playoff spot with win Thursday

St. James – at Socastee Thursday – Loss Thursday eliminates Sharks from playoff contention; win would force tie-breaker scenario.

One of the above three area teams will win the region’s fourth playoff spot.

Region VIII-AA Girls

4. Waccamaw (4-5)

5. Loris (1-8)

6. Aynor (0-9)

Waccamaw – at Dillon Wednesday – Will enter playoffs as region’s No. 4 seed and go on the road to play No. 1 seed from Region VII-AA (Tuesday road game)

Loris – vs. Aynor Wednesday – Eliminated from playoff contention

Aynor – at Loris Wednesday – Eliminated from playoff contention

Region VII-A Boys

1. Carvers Bay (8-1)

2. C.E. Murray (7-2)

3. Timmonsville (5-4)

4. Hemingway (4-5)

5. Scott’s Branch (3-6)

6. East Clarendon (0-9)

Carvers Bay – at Hemingway Thursday – Already clinched Region VII-A title and will have home playoff game Tuesday. Will have home-court advantage for first three rounds of Class A playoffs.
