Myrtle Beach boys soccer makes it five straight weeks at No. 1

Myrtle Beach boys soccer rolled through a trio of games last week not only unscathed, but looking as strong as it has all season. Because of it, the Seahawks held on to their No. 1 state ranking in Class AAA in the South Carolina coaches poll.

Coach Jason Himmelsbach’s team is now 14-2 on the season after beating Region VII-AAA foes Georgetown, St. James and Wilson by a combined score of 15-1 in those games last week. Up next for the Seahawks is Tuesday’s highly anticipated rematch with Socastee – ranked No. 5 in Class AAA at 13-2.

Myrtle Beach won the first meeting between the two schools 2-1 in penalty kicks back on March 19. In that game, goalie Anthony Silvestri blocked one of the Braves’ penalty kicks and Arly Barr connected on the game-winner.

Following that game, Myrtle Beach moved up to the No. 1 spot in the state rankings, a position the Seahawks have yet to concede.

The St. James boys, which have also spent a portion of this season in the top 10, are now No. 14.

The Myrtle Beach girls also remained ranked this week. The Seahawks came in at No. 11. The Waccamaw boys and girls teams were also ranked again this week.

The Warriors boys (9-4-2) and girls (10-5) were both No. 4 in the Class AA rankings.
