Football Friday Primer, Week 12

There wasn't any doubt in Delano Walters' mind that Socastee's best player would be ready for tonight's game against Hartsville.

Hunter Renfrow, the team's quarterback, turned an ankle last week in a first-round playoff win over Hilton Head. Walters went on to have a monster game, but against the Red Foxes, the Braves will need every available weapon, including their most valuable one.

"When he went out last week, I said ‘He’ll be back this Friday,'" Walters said. "I knew he’d be OK."

Renfrow did not return to the practice field until Wednesday, spending part of the week in a walking boot to help heal his ankle. He wasn't going all out in practice, but after so many years in this system, he probably doesn't need it.

That said, Hartsville's defense - one allowing a state-best 5.1 points per game this season - is going to put the Braves to a test unlike any other they've seen this season. More information on our Game of the Week, as well as a Player to Watch and breakdown capsules for all of our area teams in the playoffs can be found on our Football Friday Page.

The players at the top of the area stat leaders for the offensive categories has remained relatively stagnant.

In the final WBTW Blitz Web Chat of the season, we went playoff-heavy, and we even predicted which area teams have the best shot at a state title.

Also, from earlier this week:

With so many teams doing some significant travel this week, Hudl.com and its usage is saving coaches plenty of time and energy.

Loris' playoffs once again took a one-week hiatus before getting cranked up. The Lions are starting to get used to it.

And, of course, the biggest news of the week. The Grand Strand's largest high school will be looking for a new football coach after Carolina Forest's Drew Hummel resigned after eight seasons.
