Chestnut, Cooper, selected to North-South hoops teams

Two area players were selected to the North-South All-Star basketball rosters, which were released Tuesday morning.

North Myrtle Beach forward Marci Chestnut and Myrtle Beach guard Soloman Cooper will each play for their respected South team when event takes place on March 22 at Lexington High School. North Myrtle Beach coach Jude Hunt was previously selected as one of the South girls assistant coaches.

For both athletes, add this honor to plenty of others they’ve already received. Cooper, who later this month will be officially recognized as The Sun News’ Toast of the Coast Player of the Year, was also the Region VII-AAA Player of the Year and a Class AAA All-State selection after averaging 14.5 points and six rebounds for the Seahawks. He helped the team to the Lower State finals.

For Chestnut, this is her second All-Star invitation this year. The Chiefs senior was also selected to the North-South Volleyball roster after leading North Myrtle Beach to the Class AAA volleyball finals. She was named the Toast of the Coast Volleyball Player of the Year. She continued that success for Hunt on the basketball court this winter, when she averaged 15.8 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.
