S.C. state football poll, final regular-season rankings

Myrtle Beach's reign at the top of the Class AAA state rankings is expectedly over after the Seahawks lost their regular-season finale to rival North Myrtle Beach last week.

It ended an impressive winning streak for Mickey Wilson's team, and it also prevented a wire-to-wire No. 1 spot in the state rankings, as the Seahawks dropped to No. 4. What it didn't affect, as we pointed out last week, was Myrtle Beach's chances of repeating as state champs. The team will still enter the playoffs as a top seed and has at least two home playoff games, should it continue to win. It's a good time to point out that Myrtle Beach was unranked entering the 2013 postseason.

Loris stayed put at No. 5 in Class AA after beating Aynor. That win shored up playoff seeding for the Lions, who will be at home this week against Wade Hampton.

North Myrtle Beach (4-6) was the only other area team appearing the rankings this week, as the Chiefs earned at least one vote in the state's top 10 after that impressive win over the Seahawks.
