U.S. 501 Wal-Mart makes headway

Wal-Mart has awarded the bid for the store that's destined to rise at U.S. 501 and Gardner Lacy Road, company officials said.

The general contractor is expected to begin work within the next 30 days or so, according to Tara Stewart, spokesperson for Wal-Mart.

But don't unholster those credit cards just yet.

"It takes about a year to build a store and open it,'' she wrote in an email.

When complete, the facility will be a supercenter with a full grocery offering, she said.
