The Horry County Police Department gave out 254 citations from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. today, and there were six motorcycle accidents during that time, according to a report from county emergency management director Randall Webster.
That brings the tally to 1,831 citations and 26 motorcycle accidents during the Harley-Davidson Cruisin' the Coast spring rally, the report says.
The most common citation was for speeding, but they were also given for equipment violations, driver's license violations, and improper turns and passing.
Keep up with all the day's biker news, photo galleries, videos, traffic updates, vendor locations and more with our
It is not only the city government causing problems but the county council as well, the county council came up with a formula for issuing vendor permits for areas outside the MB city limits that seems to be in step with the MB mayor and city council to stop the flow of biker money into MB and Horry County. When are the WORKING residents of the city and county going to make their voices heard and vote out the people that are raising property taxes and sales taxes, that will impact the pockets of the locals as much as the tourists since it is obvious the city and county are trying to discourage tourists from coming here spending their hard earned money? Where do the councils and mayor think they are going to get 300K+ people to replace the Harley week TOURISTS and the 275K+ Bikefest TOURISTS in the month of May...maybe families that will pull their kids out of school the last few weeks when they are taking exams...not likely.
Myrtle Beach is a TOURIST destination and we depend on tourists money to support a large portion of the working people in and around MB, bikers are TOURISTS just like other vehicle drivers are.
I believe the mayor and both councils are catering to the wishes of a small group of constituents instead of the greater good of the entire county and community. As in the words of Spock..."logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few".

I believe in free speech, but i'm amazed at the rude and racist comments THE SUN NEWS allow people to make on their site. I'm a biker and i'm black. I dont behave in the manner most of you are describing. I agree that some should tone it down a bit. Every race has a bad bunch in it. I think we should be a little more respectful of others. I've been coming to Bike Week for many years. I even go to MB for vacation during the summer and encourage my friends and family to visit MB. After reading the comments over the past week, i'm not sure if i ever want to go back. I'll just find a place where people are more kind and respectful to one another. I guess some people and places will never change. Looks like we're headed back to the days of old.

Hey Captain: God Made Bikers in His image too. Perhaps you should try to remember that as the city goes down the tubes as we are missing the MONEY that all of God's Children bring us here on the beach. As a Hotel Manager and a Biker, I am AMAZED how stupid the city was, is, and can be. It is people like you that have cost my employees thousands of dollars this past week. I am sure that they would personally thank each and everyone of you, if they could find you in a dark alley.

My husband and I are middle aged Harley riders who are respectable, educated, hard working professionals. We own a summer home here in Myrtle Beach and come for bike week. We think the officals in this town made a huge mistake where bikers are concerned. You threw the baby out with the bath water! Seems to me that your rude law enforcement officers worked overtime writing tickets to make up for the loss in tourist revenue. Myrtle Beach, you screwed the pooch on this one! Hope your happy!

Thank you Mayor Rhoads for making the month of May BEARABLE again. Reading the whiners on here only confirms my belief that the rallies are USELESS to the WHOLE Grand Strand. Check out the Rat Hole and Suck Bang Blow pictures on their web sites if you want to know exactly what type of people are attracted to these rallies!

My heart goes out to the “working” MB residents. By implementing biker ordinances, increasing taxes, etc. the City Council has shown no respect or support for the tax paying, “working class” MB residents to pacify a few unappreciative high-income neighborhood residents. These actions have not only had a negative impact on the businesses but most of all the hard workers in the hospitality industry in MB. Obviously, the “complainers” are not regular “working class” and don’t depend on a job requiring manual labor to pay their bills, their check must not require tourist revenue. If you don’t like tourism, why do they live in a tourist area? I only hope that the caring MB residents will support the association “HELP”. “HELP” is the key to taking back the city for the average tourist and MB residents. Please check out www.helpformyrtlebeach.com. They can bring back the tourist! You are in my prayers!

I was out today riding my Motorcycle and the people that were pulled over by police where in cars and trucks not on motorcycles. So I would have to say out of all the citations given out I would bet that 95% are automobiles.

I have been to MB ever since in High School some 40+ years ago. I typically spend $2000+ on vacation every year but never again. If you don't like me then I will not spend my money with you, there are too many people who appreciate it! FYI, I am a middle-aged professional who normally brings my family, the type of tourist that you desire. I don't appreciate being an undesirable. To me, you have now become undesirable. FU

Yea, but how many were bikes? and how many were locals?

I hope everyone is real happy when the economic impact is felt from this. Lets run off the bikers and there money. Lets piss off the tourists coming in with road blocks on HWY 501. I am not a biker but they (the bikers) will end up having the last laugh when the city continues its downward spiral of financial ruin. Thank you city of myrtle beach for impacting the whole county with your selfishness towards being a tourist hot spot. You can raise taxes all you want, but when people lose their jobs bc of a lack of tourists coming to the area, you will be back to where you started 8% of 0 is unfortunately 0 tax money collected. Just more money going to social care. The mayor, city and county councils did obviously not think this situation through, only had short term goals in mind. I do however agree that everyone should wear a helmet.

This whole thing is a joke!! How much does these stats really matter. And how is is different from when other tourists are here during the so called busy season of the summer with other vehicles. Where are the investigative reports in finding the truth!! Must be payed off by the city!!

I'd like to know how many were locals (Horry and adjacent counties) vs. how many were visitors.

I'm curious to know if it will ever be published as to how many were violations were issued to those on bikes versus those in cars.. I can pretty much imagine that the big majority were to those in cars...
