September accommodations tax down

Lodging_2 Hotel tax collections in Horry County in September were down more than 30 percent year over year, reflecting a month with one less weekend than the previous year and a month that saw a Tropical Storm wash out one of the remaining weekends.

Georgetown County collections were down more than 20 percent.

During September 2008, Horry County hotels and lodging properties collected $933,300.14 in accommodations taxes and Georgetown County properties collected $91,490.47, according to state tax figures released today. In September 2007, those figures were $1,346,346.49 for Horry County and $117,613.88 for Georgetown County.

The tax money is collected by the state and redistributed to counties and municipalities, which use the funds in part to promote the area and fund tourism or cultural organizations or projects.
